US agency probes Amazon-owned Zoox robotaxis after two crashes, ET Auto

The U.S. Nationwide Freeway Site visitors Security Administration (NHTSA) stated Monday it has opened an investigation into Amazon.com’s self-driving Zoox automobiles as a result of surprising braking main to 2 rear-end collisions that injured motorcyclists.

NHTSA stated each crashes occurred throughout daytime lighting circumstances and inside the operational design limits of the Zoox system. NHTSA stated its preliminary investigation confirmed “every of the Zoox automobiles was working with the ADS engaged within the moments main as much as every collision.”

The investigation will consider the Zoox Automated Driving System efficiency notably referring to the collisions in addition to “the conduct in crosswalks round weak highway customers, and in different comparable rear-end collision eventualities.”
