DETROIT: Truck fleet operator Ryder System Inc will handle and keep autonomous vehicles for Waymo Through, the autonomous truck unit of Google dad or mum Alphabet Inc, the businesses mentioned on Wednesday.
Waymo Through is testing a small fleet of vehicles with its automated driving system in Texas, Arizona, California, Ohio and Michigan. Below the brand new partnership, Ryder will deal with upkeep and roadside service, amongst different companies, the businesses mentioned.
“Over time, we see super alternative to broaden our collaboration to speed up the broad deployment of autonomous vehicles,” Rocky Garff, head of Waymo Through’s trucking operations, wrote in a weblog put up.
Waymo Through is also constructing a hub for autonomous vehicles within the Dallas-Fort Value space that can be “in a position to accommodate a whole bunch of vehicles and personnel,” Garff wrote.
Waymo didn’t say when its autonomous truck fleet would develop to a whole bunch of automobiles.
Waymo Through mentioned final October it’s collaborating with Daimler Vehicles to develop autonomous Class 8 semis.
Waymo beforehand partnered with auto dealership chain AutoNation Inc to offer fleet administration companies for Waymo’s robo-taxi operations.
