OPP headquarters in Simcoe has seen regular visitors at its collision reporting centre because it opened late final 12 months.

Employees Sgt. Kristina Klingbeil informed Norfolk’s Police Providers Board Wednesday that 113 minor collisions have been reported to the centre on the Queensway West since mid-December. Of those, Klingbeil says 100 have been reported in-person since Jan. 1.

Klingbeil says a 3rd of all collisions which have come to the eye of the Norfolk OPP since mid-December have been filed in individual on the detachment at 548 Queensway West.

“It’s been very profitable,” she stated.

Police forces throughout Ontario have adopted walk-in collision reporting for mishaps involving minor accidents and minor property harm. The self-reporting mechanism permits police companies to focus front-line sources on issues of upper precedence.

The collision reporting centre at OPP headquarters in Simcoe is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to midday. Appointments will not be vital.

George Santos of Simcoe, a civilian appointee to the Norfolk PSB, recommended that Norfolk County put signage in place on Highways 3, 24, 6 and 59 advising the road-travelling public that minor collisions might be reported, in individual, on the Simcoe detachment.

These self-reporting a collision for insurance coverage functions are requested to commerce data with different events on the scene if multiple automobile is concerned. This contains names, cellphone numbers, licence numbers and insurance coverage data. Norfolk OPP ask that motorists self-reporting a collision accomplish that inside 48 hours of the prevalence.

By legislation, the Norfolk OPP should be summoned for extra critical collisions. These embrace collisions involving critical accidents and critical harm to public or personal property.

OPP should even be summoned if the collision happens through the fee of a criminal offense, because of a road-rage incident, or if a business automobile is concerned.

As soon as the knowledge is filed with the collision centre, workers at headquarters will enter it into the system after which e-mail a police report that may be shared with insurers.
