Tyre is FSC licensed |
The BMW Group stated it will be the primary automotive producer to equip its vehicles with tyres utilizing licensed sustainable pure rubber and rayon, a wood-based materials used to strengthen the tyres.
The automaker will supply 22-inch tyres from Pirelli and, from August 2021, will use them on the X5 xDrive45e Plug-in-Hybrid.
Certification of the rubber plantations and the complicated provide chain for pure rubber and rayon takes place in accordance with the strict requirements of the impartial Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), BMW stated.
Andreas Wendt, BMW buying and provider community chief, stated: “We have now been dedicated to enhancing cultivation of pure rubber and rising transparency within the provider community since 2015. Using tyres fabricated from licensed pure rubber is a pioneering achievement for our business.”
By far the most important share of pure rubber grown worldwide goes into tyre manufacturing. Pure rubber’s excessive elasticity and sturdiness presently make it irreplaceable.
To earn certification, Pirelli tailored its US plant in Rome, Georgia, to provide tyres utilizing FSC-certified pure rubber and rayon.
