Recall impacts BEV variants of the Kona bought in South Korea. The mannequin line has simply been given a facelift

Hyundai Motor will substitute the batteries in additional than 25,000 Kona electrical autos (EVs) bought in South Korea because of the threat of fireside, in line with an announcement by the nation’s ministry of land, infrastructure and transport.

The automaker and its battery provider, LG Vitality Resolution, have agreed to switch all the battery system on these autos after their earlier response to the issue proved to be insufficient to guard clients, the ministry mentioned.

4 months in the past, Hyundai recalled round 77,000 Kona EVs to improve the battery software program in response to studies of 14 battery associated fires in South Korea and overseas. Most of the fires occurred whereas the batteries have been being recharged.

The ministry confirmed that, ranging from 29 March, Hyundai would recall 25,083 Kona EVs bought in South Korea, produced between September 2017 and July 2019, to switch lithium-ion batteries manufactured by LG Vitality Resolution.

The automaker may even recall 1,314 Ioniq EVs and 302 Elec Metropolis buses outfitted with LG Vitality Resolution batteries produced on the provider’s Nanjing manufacturing unit in China.

The ministry’s Korea Car Testing & Analysis Institute (KATRI) mentioned in a preliminary report the battery pack fires could have been brought on by defects of their excessive voltage battery cells.
