The province stated it’s anticipated to gather round $60,000 from the 403 registered EVs, one thing Brian Kingston, president and CEO of the Canadian Car Producer’s of Canada stated indicators how this tax is being talked about too quickly.

“There’s a debate available and a dialogue in some unspecified time in the future round, ‘okay, how will we pay for highway upkeep,’ however when Saskatchewan at present has round 400 EVs on the highway, it’s not the time for that dialogue, we’re nonetheless within the adoption part, we are able to flip to that down the highway when you’re seeing extra folks driving EVs and a discount within the gas surtax,” Kingston stated.

Cruickshank stated he hoped the province would introduce extra incentives to get extra drivers behind the wheel of an EV, however as a substitute, they had been met with an added annual charge.

“It’s solely on 400 automobiles, it’s solely going to herald $60,000 and we ought to be centered as a substitute on incentivizing folks to make the swap to electrical automobiles,” Cruickshank stated.
